Vibrant Voice Technique is a device and technique that quickly and effectively enhances vocal resonance and reduces the muscle tension that can lead to vocal fatigue.
After all, what do the vocal folds do? They vibrate. What is resonance? It is sympathetic vibration. The Vibrant Voice Technique series of exercises, like the one shown in the video below, target specific muscles in the head, neck, and shoulders that are typically associated with vocal tension and fatigue.
David Ley explains the origin of The Vibrant Voice Technique in the video below. It all started a friend and client came to him experiencing intense vocal fatigue. A scope of her vocal folds at the otolaryngologist’s office showed no damage, but she was badly in need of a way to release the tension that was contributing to her voice loss. So David thought to himself: vibration is something that is commonly used to break down muscle tension – what vibrates and is small enough to place on the front of the neck? That lightbulb moment and the subsequent purchase at the Canadian “love shop” grew into the Vibrant Voice Technique.
As theatre voice teachers, we know that there are many, many approaches to addressing muscle tension and enhancing resonance. We teach this technique because it is an incredibly useful tool for vocal development.
Because we come from the arts, many of the people we work with are professional actors and singers. Yet we have also had great success working with school teachers, business people, lawyers, and call center employees. If you rely on your voice in your work or your daily life, we want to help you communicate more confidently and find more vocal freedom.
